Textual Analysis # 4 A Dream Within A Dream

This poem relates to be because it talks about certain aspects drifting away from you, it seems as though they can’t be real. When something slips away from your grasp you wonder, was I just dreaming? This poems represents individuality and freedom, beauty and freedom. No I don’t see myself in the authors writting because his writing is pretty dark. Certain “down times in life” I could find myself in quit a few of his poems.

Tell Tell Heart By Edgar Allen Poe

Alone By Edgar Allen Poe

From childhood’s hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view

Textual Analysis # 1 .. Alone By Edgar Allen Poe

This poem deeply relates to the author’s life because as a child he often times felt alone, he had to deal with so many tragic events throughout his life time. By the time Poe was three years old he was an Orphan. His mother and Father died within a year or so of each other. He was never officially adopted but he changed his middle name to Allen after his foster parent who were merchants. After being placed with this family he was sent off to boarding school for five years in England. Poe experienced heartbreak again when was in the army and he found out that his first “LOVE  Engaged to another man. The tragic events in Poe’s life led him to write this piece of art. Lines 9-12 and 5-8 make me feel this way. he said “I loved alone.”

All of these tragic events in his life left him feeling alone.

It is the nature of truth in general, as of some ores in particular, to be richest when most superficial.

– That truth is best when it is apparent when it is revealed. Edgar Allen Poe often times about Truth, and Freedom!

The nose of a mob is its imagination. By this, at any time, it can be quietly led.

– Imagination was a big part of the romantic/ transcendentalism era.

Beauty of whatever kind, in its supreme development, invariably excites the sensitive soul to tears.

– A combination of various types of values, creativity, expression, etc created by man that makes uo one elements of an individual!
This is an intersting depiction of Edgar Allen Poe. Many people thought his work was brillant but thought of him as insane. A lot of his writings were dark, he is often times is connected with the title “Dark Romantic Author”

The 1970’s Earl show he does a highlight of his favorite poet, Edgar Allen Poe. He describes him as an “Author of fantastic imagination, a brillant editor and critic, a poet tender and cruel”. He does a great job of summarizing life event of Poe.

This a image based off Edgar’s well know poem titled “A Dream Within A Dream”. This is a direct representation of how Poes work created imagery. To me this pictures a women sleeping innocently throught the day and the night. The moon represents the cycle of everyday life. If you look closely there is a shadow of a man this could be a representation of a person looking over ones past actions because in fact everything could be nothing but a dream within a dream!
